Overview of Strategic Plan

Prepare a 3–4 page overview of the strategic planning process that identifies the strategic planning outcomes, describes the key components of the planning process, defines the planning schedule, and analyzes past strategies to determine reasons for success or failure.

Note: Developing a strategic plan requires specific steps that need to be executed in a sequence. The assessments in this course are presented in sequence and must be completed in order.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 1: Evaluate the role of an effective planning process in the strategic management of health care organizations.

o    Identify strategic planning outcomes.

o    Describe the key components of the strategic planning process.

o    Define a strategic planning schedule.

o    Analyze past strategies to determine the reasons for their successes and failures.

                        Competency 5: Communicate in a manner that is professional and consistent with expectations for business professionals.

o    Write content clearly and logically with correct use of grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.

Per Zuckerman (2012), “Strategic planning refers to a process for defining organizational objectives, implementing strategies to achieve those objectives, and measuring the effectiveness of those strategies” (p. 3).

The health care industry requires leaders with strategic planning and management skills. Strategic management is the action of leading an organization using strategic thinking, planning, and decision making.
