Challenges In The Global Business Environment

Challenges In The Global Business Environment

According to the textbook, ongoing challenges in the global business environment are mostly attributed to unethical business practices, failure to embrace technology advancements, and stiff competition among businesses. Imagine that you have been appointed as Apple’s Chief Compliance Officer and must prepare a video presentation for Apple’s suppliers regarding Apple’s Supplier Code of Conduct to deliver via a web meeting. To prepare for your presentation, review Apple’s Supplier Code of Conduct, located at https://www.apple.com/supplier-responsibility/.  submit a four to six (4-6) page paper  presentation to email to the suppliers after the meeting for future reference.

 Paper

Prepare to write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:

  1. List specific changes that Apple has made to its Code of Conduct in recent years. Provide at least one (1) example of each change.
  2. Explain the identified changes to the suppliers in such a way that they will understand the standards that Apple requires in order to maintain their relationship with the company.

If you choose the written paper, your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Evaluate the influences of changing economic, political, social, cultural, and technological forces on business and society.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in business and society.
  • Write clearly and concisely about business and society using proper writing mechanics.

Cash Method Versus Accrual Method

Cash Method Versus Accrual Method

Businesses face a choice between two important methods of calculating taxable income for federal income taxes: the cash method and the accrual method.

Based on your readings for the module, respond to the following:

1. What factors determine a company’s choice between the cash method and the accrual method in accounting for income taxes?

2. Give an example of a particular transaction and describe how the two methods would account for that transaction differently.

Write your initial response in two to three paragraphs.

By the due date assigned, submit your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Use the same Discussion Area to comment on your classmates’ submissions and continue the discussion until through the end of the module. Comment on how your classmates would address differing views.

Investigating a Teaching Problem

Investigating a Teaching Problem with CATs, Part 2

In this week’s Discussion, you will wrap up your time as a faculty member in a Speech Communication department. Last week, you discussed how to use classroom assessment to investigate your students’ apparent lack of motivation and ability to improve their speaking abilities. This week, you will begin to reflect on the results of your investigation and decide what to do about it.

In your Speech Communication course, you decided to use “Reflective Learning Logs” to gather information about what students thought about class activities, about their work outside of class, and about public speaking in general. You asked students to hand in anonymous copies of their logs each week. In reading through the first few weeks’ worth of logs, you discover the following:

  • All but two of your students report that they are terribly afraid of speaking in public.
  • Four of your students (about one-fifth of the class) are non-native English speakers and feel very unsure of their ability to make a formal speech in English.
  • Half of the class reports spending less than 2 hours per week outside of class on this course.
  • About a third of your students felt that the expectations for the first assignment (a Powerpoint presentation, submitted electronically and not actually presented in class) were unclear. All of the assignments in your course require some form of slide presentation or visual aid, and you use the same rubric language for these parts of the assignments throughout the course.

By Day 3

Post a short summary of what you think these results mean. Then, suggest at least two ideas for how you could use these findings to help students overcome their difficulties.

Green computing

Green computing

Part 1: Project Integration Management You work for We Are Big, Inc., an international firm with more than 100,000 employees in several countries. A strategic goal is to help improve the environment while increasing revenues and reducing costs. The Environmental Technologies Program just started, and the VP of Operations, Natalie, is the program sponsor. Ito is the program manager, and there is a steering committee made up of 10 senior executives, including Natalie, who oversees the program. Several projects operate within this program, including the Green Computing Research Project. The CIO and project sponsor, Ben, has given this project high priority and plans to hold special interviews to hand-pick the project manager and team. Ben is also a member of the program steering committee. Before coming to We Are Big, Ben sponsored a project at a large computer firm to improve data center efficiency. This project, however, is much broader. The main purpose of the Green Computing Research Project is to research possible applications of green computing, including the following:

 Data center and overall energy efficiency

 Disposal of electronic waste and recycling

 Telecommuting

 Virtualization of server resources

 Thin client solutions

 Use of open source software

 Development of new software to address green computing for internal use and potential sale to other organizations

The budget for the project is $500,000, and the goal is to provide an extensive report, including detailed financial analysis and recommendations for which green computing technologies to implement. Official project request forms for the recommended solutions will also be created as part of the project. Ben decided to have five people working full-time on this six-month project and to call on people in other areas as needed. He wanted to be personally involved in selecting the project manager and to have that person help him select the rest of the project team. Ben wanted to find people already working inside the company, but he was also open to reviewing applications for potential new employees to work specifically on his project as long as they could start quickly. Because many good people were located in different parts of the world, Ben thought it made sense to select the best people he could find and allow them to work virtually on the project. Ben also wanted the project manager to do more than just manage the project. The project manager would also do some of the research, writing, and editing required to produce the desired results. Ben was also open to paying expert consultants for their advice and to purchasing books and related articles as needed.

The rest of the project is in the pdf down below. Task 1-5 need to be completed. Final submission should include an APA formatted cover page and references page. Thank you for your help in advanced.

Calculating Tax Cost

Calculating Tax Cost

Microtech Software Corporation (MSC) was founded in 2001. The founder, Chan Li, studied at MIT and worked for a large software corporation before returning to his hometown, Centervale, to set up his own company.

The corporate tax rate structure applicable in Centervale is as follows:

  Taxable Income                                          Tax Rate

Up to $50,000                                               15 percent

From $50,001 through $150,000     22 percent

Income in excess of $150,000             30 percent

MSC has an opportunity to invest in a project that is expected to generate an additional $55,000 of taxable income.

Compute the tax cost of this additional income for the following three scenarios:

  • MSC’s taxable income before the additional income is $45,000.
  • MSC’s taxable income before the additional income is $300,000.
  • MSC has a loss of $5,000 before considering the additional income.

Show all the steps of the calculation and the final answer for each scenario. Compare the results for the three scenarios and comment on any differences.

Write a one- to two-page paper in MS Word format. Apply APA standards for writing style to your work.

Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M1_A3.doc.

By the due date assigned, deliver your assignment to the Submissions Area.

Enacting New Taxes

Enacting New Taxes

Decisions related to taxes have a far-reaching impact on all U.S. citizens. Therefore, it is important to weigh the pros and cons of such decisions and ensure that they will be beneficial to the majority of citizens.

Based on your readings for the module, respond to the following:

* When the government considers enacting a new tax, what issues need to be considered to ensure that the tax will be fair to all taxpayers? Give reasons and examples to support your answer.

* Consider the idea of replacing the federal income tax with a national sales tax or value-added tax. Do you think this would make the system more fair or less fair?

Give reasons and examples to support your answer.

Write your initial response in one to two paragraphs.

By the due date assigned submit your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Use the same Discussion Area to comment on your classmates’ submissions and continue the discussion until through the end of the module. Comment on how your classmates would address differing views.
