Discuss Descriptive Statistics In Research

Instructions

This week, you will read the article written by Sorokowski et al. (2015), located under your weekly resources. Then, you will write a paper that includes the following:

  • A description of the purpose of the research, the hypotheses, and the methods used to test the hypotheses.
  • A description of the variables that were measured in the research and the level of measurement for each variable (i.e., nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio).
  • A description of the sample used in the research. Your description should include a discussion regarding the diversity (e.g., age, sex, race, etc.) of the sample.
    • For example, was the sample representative of a particular population or was it simply a convenience sample?
  • A discussion to determine if the ethical guidelines were followed in the recruitment and testing of participants.
  • A summary of the results and conclusions.
  • A description of the measures of central tendency (i.e., mean, median, or mode) and variability (e.g., standard deviation) reported by the authors.
    • This should include specific examples of how central tendency and variability were reported in the article; you should not include general definitions for these terms.

• Reading: Earthly Plenitudes, Chapter Five and Conclusion• Highlighted part Elaborate on the concepts of dependency and the labor of care. Why is the latter usually referred to as “women’s work”?

Reliability and Validity in Quantitative Research

Based on one of the articles on a quantitative study that you have previously researched for this course, address the following:

  • Describe the variables used in the research and how they were measured. Describe any assessments that were used.
  • Discuss the types of reliability that were reported for the  measurement instrument (test-retest, inter-rater, parallel forms,  split-half) and validity (content, construct, criterion).
  • Using your textbook, construct an external validity checklist and  an internal validity checklist, noting how your selected article did  address or could have addressed each issue.
  • Discuss how the reliability and validity in the research contribute to the scientific merit of the research.
  • List the persistent link for the article. Use the Persistent  Links and DOIs library guide, linked in the Resources, to learn how to  locate this information in the library databases.
  • Cite all sources in APA style and provide an APA-formatted reference list at the end of your post.

Revision comments

I requested an annotated bibliography. Each reference needs a paragraph telling about the reference. Also, the outline needs to be a little more detailed.

The resources need to be an ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY. Please have this done today.

scientific research studies

Quantitative and qualitative research are the foundations of scientific research studies. Quantitative social science research tries to understand social science by creating quantifiable evidence, like numbers and statistics, analyzed over many different instances to show reliability and validity. You can remember this easily by thinking “quantitative = quantity; quantity = numbers.” Qualitative research tries to understand social science by exploring the totality of a situation, like through observing behavior and monitoring communications, then analyzing them to comprehend the “why” and “how” of the behavior. You can remember this easily by thinking “qualitative = quality; quality = character.” These are very simplistic and generalized definitions that apply to a broad range of sciences, but they are useful as a starting point for this Discussion.

In this Discussion, you analyze the differences between qualitative and quantitative research and conceptualize your own definition of each. Be sure to focus on the specific details of how these research methods are applied to social sciences and human services, providing examples where necessary.

From Inquiry To Understanding

Writing Research Reports: Each report (worth 1 unit of research credit) will be based on a scientific

article in a psychology journal that is pre-approved by the instructor unless the article is one cited in our textbook. Each paper should be no more than 2-3 pages in length and will be judged on the basis of clarity, spelling, grammar, and content. You are to summarize and critically evaluate the article by:

– Identifying the purpose of the study (why did the authors conduct this study)

– Stating the hypotheses in the study

– Summarizing in sufficient detail the method used (procedure, materials, and participants)

– Reporting the results from the study and the general conclusions

Empirical articles must be obtained through Google Scholar or PsycINFO. To locate PsycINFO, go to:
