health technology

Comment2

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a health technology is the application of organized knowledge and skills in the form of devices, medicines, vaccines, procedures and systems developed to solve a health problem and improve quality of lives(“health technology,” n.d.).  My EBP is the education of nursing/security staff on assessment skills to recognize  decompensation of mental health patients, to implement my project I think I will use power point, and a plastic card system to attach to all staff IDs.  The computer system at my facility is very archaic, there is no way of flagging a patient or tasking a nurse.  Also when the nurse is in front of the patient, this is the time for the quick assessment, and no computer is available.  The card system will bullet point key objectives to recognize decompensation during encounter.

use of technology

Comment1

Relying on the use of technology to show evidence and convince others of the importance of a change happening is a very good strategy. In my opinion, the first thing I must do is a small analysis or questionnaire to identify the different learning styles of those involved. But according to the specialists it is advisable to use a mixed teaching strategy that includes all the styles to have a better success. Regardless of their learning style, individuals learn best when they partake in a variety of multisensory activities. It’s best to try and plan out activities that are suited for visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners (Cox, 2018).

The best way to mix all styles is to motivate all the senses of our audience. This can be achieved through the visualization or projection of a video, according to Encore, 2018, nothing captures attention more effectively than beautiful visuals. An event which greatly captures the attention of the audience via their sight makes the event memorable by enhancing the ability of the audience to recollect specific moments. This collection of the most memorable moments, is what interests us that our audience captures. In the video should be emphasized, or should be highlighted at a specific time, the importance or impact, which will have the change in those involved.

Patient Education (Pharm).

Please READ the COMPETENCES at the end.

Create a one-page patient education tool that explains usage of a medication and factors that can affect outcomes.

Then, write 2–3 pages in which you explain how the tool promotes patient safety and quality outcomes, and adheres to the principles and practices of cultural competence.

Assessment Instructions

Imagine your supervisor has asked you to develop a patient education tool for new medication starts in your current area of practice. This tool needs to provide important information to the patient, yet be concise enough to require no more than one page.

Preparation

Review the suggested list of possible topics in Part 1 of the Requirements and then search the Internet for supporting resources. You will need to provide support for the information you choose to include in the patient education tool.

Requirements

Complete both Part 1 and Part 2 of this assessment. You may submit both parts in one document or submit them as separate documents. Be sure you complete both parts!

Submit a total of 4–5 pages. Write no more than one page for Part 1. Write 2–3 pages, plus a separate reference page, for Part 2.

Part 1: Patient Education Tool

Complete the following:

1. Choose one of the following topics as the basis for your patient education tool:

o Antibiotics (Amoxil/Amoxicillin) for pediatric ear infections.

o Statin therapy (Zocor/Simvastatin) for a newly diagnosed patient with hypercholesterolemia.

o Antihypertensive (ACE inhibitors/Lisinopril/Zestril) for a patient who was discovered to have hypertension at a health screening at work.

o Drugs for treating gastric acidity (Proton pump inhibitors/antacids/H2 blockers) for a patient complaining of chronic indigestion and heartburn.

o Ear drops or eye drops (or both) for an elderly patient.

o Any newly released medication for a patient in your area of practice. This might be a new drug for diabetes, hypertension, or arthritis or a new antibiotic.

2. Include the following in your patient education tool:

o Explain appropriate use of the medication.

o Identify specific factors (age, access, culture, and so on) that may affect the efficacy of the medication.

o Describe possible chemical interactions, side effects, or other negative reactions patients need to be aware of.

o Explain correct handling, storage, and disposal of the medication.

o Include any other information you feel would be beneficial and promote patient safety and quality outcomes.

You may format Part 1, the patient education tool, any way you wish, but be sure it is logical and understandable by the typical patient who would use it. Feel free to include pictures or diagrams to reinforce the information.

Part 2: Evidence-Based Practice

Provide evidence for the information you included in the patient education tool:

· Explain how the information in the patient education tool promotes patient safety and quality outcomes.

· Explain how the patient education tool adheres to the principles and practices of cultural competence. In other words, is the tool appropriate for all cultures, genders, ages, et cetera; or could it be easily adapted for specific needs?

Format Part 2 according to APA guidelines. This is not a document you would provide to a patient but, for this assessment, it will provide faculty with the academic and professional principles necessary to evaluate your work.

Additional Requirements

· At least 2 current scholarly or professional resources.

· For Part 2 only:

o Use Times New Roman font, 12 point, double-spaced font.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

QUESTION 8

  1. History of Present Illness
A 50-year-old disabled male is a resident of a nursing home who has been admitted because of marked congestion and respiratory distress. He is known to have mental retardation and frequent urinary tract and pulmonary infections. He has a recurrent epileptic disorder that is well controlled on Dilantin.

    Physical Examination
On admission, vital signs include a temperature of 101° F, respiratory rate of 32 breaths per minute, heart rate of 82 beats per minute, and blood pressure of 120/70 mm Hg. Examination of the chest reveals bilateral crepitations. There is moderate redness and edema of the scrotal skin.

Laboratory Data and Course in Hospital
His white blood cell count is 8.5; hemoglobin, 12.9 g/dl; polymorphonuclear leukocytes, 64; bands, 19; lymphocytes, 10; monocytes, 6; and eosinophils, 1. A urinalysis shows moderate bacterial and white blood cell count. A urine culture shows mixed flora. The repeat urine culture shows Providencia stuartii sensitive to Fortaz. A sputum culture reveals the presence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, sensitive to vancomycin. A chest X-ray film shows bilateral pulmonary infiltrates. Arterial blood gases on room air show a PO2 of 48, PCO2 of 30, and pH of 7.50. When repeated with the patient on oxygen, PO2 is 66, PCO2 is 36, and pH is 7.45. The patient is treated with intravenous vancomycin and intravenous Fortaz. His pulmonary infiltrate decreases. His oral intake has been somewhat poor, and he has been given intravenous fluids off and on. The nursing staff at the nursing home note that his intake, in terms of eating and taking fluids, is much better. His medications at the nursing home include Dilantin, 200 mg twice a day; Tegretol, 400 mg at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 200 mg at 8 p.m.; and Cipro, 500 mg twice a day; and his maintenance medications are continued. This patient is being discharged today.

Use Encoder Pro software to assign I-10 code(s) for each of the final diagnosis statements below:

Final Diagnosis

  1. Acute respiratory insufficiency
  2. Bilateral pneumonia due to MRSA
  3. Providencia stuartii (gram-negative bacilli) infection
  4. Mental retardation
  5. Epilepsy
  6. UTI

graduation party.

For this discussion, you will need to address all of the questions below and be sure to participate fully by responding to your classmates as well. Citations should be used to support your analysis and references should be included in APA format. Be sure to review the Discussion Question Guidelines before you begin!

This week, you will be creating two Excel spreadsheets in one Excel workbook (file). Save the file as W4DQ_YourLastName (Excel will add the default of .xlsx to this name) and then Save often so you don’t lose any work! Name each worksheet descriptively.

Sheet 1 (which you will rename).

  1. Create an itemized list of at least ten (10) items that you will need for your graduation party. Lay out your Excel spreadsheet following the example below. Make your columns as wide as you need to show all the information for that column by double clicking on the line between the columns or dragging the line between the columns. Cell B2 had the Wrap Text on the Home ribbon in the Alignment group turned on due to the length of the description. Only include numbers in the Cost per Unit, Quantity, and Cost columns so your calculations will work.
  2. When you have entered your data, Sort your information by Item.
  3. Share any questions about this or anything else in the Discussion Area.

Sheet 2 (which you will rename).

MS Excel is a great help with calculations which are completed using formulas. Remember, by typing an equal sign (=) into a cell, you are preparing Microsoft Excel to do a formula calculation. Refresh your memory on the use of formulas from this week’s assigned reading and the online lectures. For Sheet 2, think of a situation at home, work, or even a hobby or sport for which you could use a calculation and create a formula to solve a problem.

  1. Open a spreadsheet in MS Excel and create your formula. Make sure you label components of your spreadsheet.
  2. In the Discussion Area when you attach your file, describe the purpose of your formula and how it will help solve the problem it was designed to address. Share any challenges you had as well as tips for others.
  3. Delete the unused worksheets by right clicking on them one at a time and choosing Delete.
