Biological Theory of Aging

Before beginning this exercise be sure to read chapter 4 (Will be attached as PDF file) completely and then be sure to pay particular attention to the Biological Theory of Aging (it will be on page numerated 49 in chapter 4).

You are taking care of a 65-year-old woman on your critical care unit who had a heart attack five days previously and also has a history of diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoporosis. While you are helping her attend to her hygiene, she shares with you that she does not understand why she has so many physical issues when she knows that her parents did not have any of the issues she does.

Instructions:

  1. How do you respond to her statement as an informed caregiver?
  2. What health teaching would you incorporate into your care plan to help your client understand the biologic aging theory?
