ADD MORE IDEAS

Cigarette packaging

Tobacco companies are required to include warning labels on cigarette packaging. It has been recommended that they illustrate the effects of cigarette smoking. These images are quite graphic; examples include diseased lungs and a man exhaling cigarette smoke through his neck by way of a tracheotomy hole.

Respond to the following questions:

1. How do you feel about these regulations?

2. Will this type of packaging make a difference in the number of people who smoke? If not, can you think of other ways to encourage people to quit or prevent others from starting this habit?

3. Do you think these kinds of labels should be used to deter people from purchasing unhealthy foods? For instance, should soda labels have pictures of rotting teeth?

Global Nursing Issues

Global Nursing Issues

People everywhere want to be healthy, happy, and safe. But the reality is that re-emerging diseases, limited access to health care, pandemics, terrorism, war, poverty, and natural disaster continue to threaten the lives and well being of people around the world. Differences in economics, cultures, political structures, and ethical standards often hinder the ability to provide even basic health care to populations at risk. Although the task of providing quality health care to all the citizens of the world may seem to be an unachievable dream, you can make a difference in their lives by advocating for the world’s underserved.

This week, you will examine factors that affect health care delivery in underdeveloped countries, and you will consider what nurses can do to make a difference.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

  • Analyze challenges related to the provision of health care in underdeveloped countries
  • Evaluate strategies for advocating for global health care

Discussion: What Can Nurses Do?

Many people, most of them in tropical countries of the Third World, die of preventable, curable diseases. . . . Malaria, tuberculosis, acute lower-respiratory infections—in 1998, these claimed 6.1 million lives. People died because the drugs to treat those illnesses are nonexistent or are no longer effective. They died because it doesn’t pay to keep them alive.

–Ken Silverstein, Millions for Viagra. Pennies for Diseases of the Poor, The Nation, July 19, 1999

Unfortunately, since 1998, little has changed. For many individuals living in impoverished underdeveloped countries, even basic medical care is difficult to obtain. Although international agencies sponsor outreach programs and corporations, and although nonprofit organizations donate goods and services, the level of health care remains far below what is necessary to meet the needs of struggling populations. Polluted water supplies, unsanitary conditions, and poor nutrition only exacerbate the poor health prevalent in these environments. Nurses working in developed nations have many opportunities/advantages that typically are not available to those in underdeveloped countries. What can nurses do to support their international colleagues and advocate for the poor and underserved of the world?

In this Discussion, you will consider the challenges of providing health care for the world’s neediest citizens, as well as how nurses can advocate for these citizens.

To prepare:

  • Consider the challenges of providing health care in underdeveloped countries.
  • Conduct research in the Walden Library and other reliable resources to determine strategies being used to address these challenges.
  • Using this week’s Learning Resources, note the factors that impact the ability of individuals in underdeveloped nations to obtain adequate health care.
  • Consider strategies nurses can use to advocate for health care at the global level. What can one nurse do to make a difference?

Write a description of at least two challenges related to providing adequate health care in underdeveloped countries. Then, describe two strategies you might use to address those challenges, and explain why. Finally, describe one strategy nurses might use in advocating for health care at the global level, and explain why this would be an effective strategy.

Business Case Proposal for new HR Rewards and Recognition, Health and Medical homework help

Options 1 & 2: Business Proposal
For this assignment, you will write a proposal to your organization’s senior management team for a project you would like to receive approval for. The section titled Practical Skills: Proposal Writing in the interactive lecture on page V of Module 7 provides guidance to help you determine the specific needs of your audience.

Your proposal will be based on the work you have already done for the Module 6 Critical Thinking Assignment. You will be writing on the topic you chose for that assignment, either:

  • Leadership Training Need Identified
  • Reward and Recognition Program Needed

Review the information provided in the Module 7, Page V, Practical Skills: Proposal Writing, interactive lecture. Use the proposal template (link below) for the assignment.

Your proposal should be 6-8 pages in length and conform to CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements. Include at least 5 scholarly references, proper in-text citation, and a reference page. The CSU-Global Library is a good place to find these references.

Proposal Template

Practical Skills Module 7, Page 5

Your proposal should be divided into parts, or sections, that are familiar to your organization and audience. If you have seen other proposals from your organization, it is recommended to follow that same organizational approach for your writing. If not, you can always do an internet search to select an approach that you find effective.

For the purpose of this course and your upcoming Portfolio Project Assignment, organize your proposal into these parts:

Introduction
The purpose of the introduction is to introduce the problem to your audience. Be clear and succinct. Answer these questions in a 4-5 sentence paragraph.

  • Why is the current situation not effective?
  • Why does it need to be changed, in your opinion? (Brady, n.d.)

Current Situation
In this section, explain the problem that currently exists, the causes of the problem, and the effects created by the problem.

Project Plan
In this section of your proposal, explain what you want to do to solve the problem you defined in the introduction
You may want to use a bulleted list here to list the benefits of your solution. Include your research here. It is very important to provide evidence to justify your proposed plan. Be sure to:

  • Make reference to studies in this topic area
  • Quote individuals well-known in the field
  • Provide data
  • Don’t forget to cite all sources (Brady, n.d.)

Click here for a sample business proposal in APA format. While this report is not organized into the same sections you will be using for your report, it does provide you with good examples of how to make reference to studies in the topic area, how to provide data, and how to cite your sources.

Qualifications and Experience
In this section, tell your audience why you are the person to get the job done. Describe your experience. If you feel you are not qualified to do the work, describe the person, or type of person, required. You may also want to describe similar projects your organization has taken on in the past to show why you believe this project will be successful.

Budget
This section outlines the budget and an estimate of what the project will cost. Depending on your audience, you may want to include direct and indirect costs. Use general categories to estimate costs. Cost details can be provided later once the project has been approved. (Brady, n.d)

The budget is a very important section of your project. A table that presents the costs in an at-a-glance format is recommended for that audience which wants to get a general idea of the cost at this point.

Click here for a sample budget.

Conclusion

End your proposal by restating the benefits of the proposal. Keep your conclusion short and concise. Four to five sentences will most likely be enough.
